Fall 2009 Soccer Season

It has been hot the past few months, but the weather will eventually cool down allowing us the opportunity to venture outside of our homes once again. With this in mind, we are excited to announce another season of soccer for the children in Laveen. The season will “kick off” (Steve added the pun, Jeff apologizes for its lameness) Saturday, October 3 and run through November 14. We will be playing at the park in Arlington Estates (located north of Baseline and east of 43rd Ave.), but we may have to relocate for a couple of games while the fields are receiving their winter grass treatment (we'll keep you informed as to where/when that will be).

We will follow the same format as we did earlier this year with games on Saturdays and practices during the week. We intend to have three age groups participating: 4-5, 6-7, and 8-10. As before, we will be looking for volunteer coaches and referees. Coaches get to choose when and where practice is held each week. Referees get to feel the exhilaration of holding a whistle and controlling the outcome of the games to favor their 4-year olds (Laveen Soccer LLC is not managed by, nor affiliated with, the National Basketball Association).

Each child will receive a shirt, socks, trophy, and there will be a pizza party for all families at the end of the season. Our goal, once again, is to tend more towards an informal league where costs are kept to a minimum while the professionalism of the league is free to be questioned (hence the reference to a certain lame pun). We have, however, graduated to a less amateur state by forming an official company: Laveen Soccer LLC (Huge thanks to Isabella and Anya Searle’s Dad Blaine atGust Rosenfeld: http://www.gustlaw.com/attorneys3.tpl?action=search&SKU=1180 ).

Even though we have added some additional expenses to the league, we feel that we can still run it by only charging $35 per child. We have been seeking (and continue our search for) support from local businesses to help offset some of these new costs. We will attach a registration form to this email and can begin accepting money (checks payable to Laveen Soccer LLC), waivers, and registration forms immediately. You can mail these papers and money to us at either of our addresses below, or you can give it to us in person at the Cesar Chavez Library on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. September 12 will be our last day of regular registration, but we will also accept procrastinators at a cost of $50 per child until September 26 (under the table bribes may be accepted after that time, but it’s gonna take a couple of Mr. Franklin’s pictures to warm us up to that idea).

Click HERE to download the registration and waiver forms. After you've printed and filled out the forms, drop it off (or mail it) at either of our houses.

See you soon,
